When the polls close on election night, the numbers are fixed. This many showed up and voted. Each candidate on the ballot got this number of votes. This party won. That party lost. We need stories to make sense of the numbers, help us understand what happened. Stories, however, are not fixed. They reflect a perspective. They make a point.
